Pimples can pop up unexpectedly at any moment and are anything but fun! And with Earth Day just around the corner on April 22, what better time to highlight natural pimple remedies that actually work? These natural pimple treatments are not only good for your skin, but also free of harsh chemicals that can hurt the planet. Yay for Earth Day beauty!

And before I dive into this list, I just want to say that if the word “DIY” intimidates you, there is no reason to be nervous! These natural DIY pimple remedies are incredibly easy to make and you’ll have no problem at all mastering them.

1. Aspirin Spot Treatment Paste

Yes, Aspirin the blood thinner! Debra Jaliman, MD, New York City-based dermatologist and author of Skin Rules explained to Health, “The active ingredient in aspirin is salicylic acid—the same key ingredient in many topical acne products.” To try this treatment, “Crush one aspirin in water and make a paste … Apply the paste directly to the pimple with a cotton swab and leave on for 10 minutes. Then rinse off with warm water.”

2. Tea Tree Oil

tips to stay fit & healthy

One of my personal favorite natural pimple-clearing treatments is tea tree oil. As shared on Reader’s Digest, tea tree oil is effective thanks to “its natural inflammation-fighting properties. A five percent solution of tea tree oil is less harsh than a five percent benzoyl peroxide solution and can be just as effective against acne, though it may clear up a little less quickly.”

To use this method, RD recommends, “Mix a few drops of tea tree oil with between 20 and 40 drops of witch hazel, then use a cotton swab to apply. Try this remedy up to twice a day; more could dry your skin and make the acne worse.”

Also, I just want to give a head’s up that tea tree oil has a very strong scent. It can be a bit overwhelming, but I personally really like it!
